Getting Started: A Planning Workshop for Enterprise Architect Users

Prior to jumping into using Enterprise Architect or to bringing in a training program, Doreen Evans Associates can help your project team prepare for the effective and smooth introduction of the tool by evaluating your situation and planning an approach.

Enterprise Architect is a robust tool with support for different methods and diagrams. It's most effective when combined with a well-thought out process that meets your organization's needs. But when you're introducing a new tool, you may encounter some bumps in the road. We'll leverage our expertise to help you answer questions such as: How does Enterprise Architect best fit in your environment? What kinds of diagrams will you be working with? What deliverables should be produced, and when? What's the best way to get your team up to speed on the tasks they need to accomplish? Do your analysts have the needed skills?

Our two-and-a-half-day Assessment & Planning Workshop is designed to get you on the right track.

Day One

On the first day, our consultants will facilitate meetings with your analysts to understand what they do now, what deliverables they produce and what roadblocks they encounter. Then we'll present the advantages of using a repository-based tool and a modeling vs a document-driven approach. The day will close with an overview of Enterprise Architect.

Day Two

The second day will be focused on the leadership team. Together we'll work with you to develop an approach that will incorporate best practices along with the specific needs of your organization. We'll also discuss whether your projects could benefit from tailoring standard Enterprise Architect artifacts and reports.

In the afternoon, our team will prepare high-level documentation on the approach, as well as a summary of our implementation recommendations.

Day Three

On the final day, we will present our findings and recommendations and will walk through the approach with the entire team. Then we'll discuss next steps, for example, a training program or mentoring plan.
